Vineyards

Rylstone has 67 acres under vine – both reds and whites – and our first vintage from this vineyard was the 2002 Rumkers Peak Shiraz. In the pipeline other reds include Merlot, Cabernet Franc, Petit Verdot and Cabernet, and perhaps a Bordeaux-type blend. On the white front, this year’s vintage resulted in the Cox’s Crown Verdelho and Tongbong Chardonnay.

Nullo Mountain at 1100 metres – possibly the highest vineyard in Australia – has a unique microclimate, not to mention a spectacular outlook. We have 11 acres planted to Riesling, Pinot Gris, Pinot Noir, Nebbiolo and Sauvignon Blanc. This year we have had success with the dry Riesling but lost our Sauvignon Blanc crop due to hail damage, late rains and botrytis – the upside of the botrytis is a beautiful late-picked Riesling, an absolute cracker! (released in November 2003). And of course, we hold out hope that the next season will see all other varieties flourish!
